KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional is unfazed over not having an alternative budget as the Opposition is well prepared to scrutinise the government’s Budget 2020 this Friday (Oct 11), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president added that the Opposition’s duty is to highlight the shortcomings and inaccurate contents of the government’s Budget.
“So, we are well-prepared for the Budget session, don’t worry. We have our own research team and we also listen to the grievances of the people.
“For instance, expectations from the small and medium enterprises, whether allocations will be increased or not, how to provide a more conducive business environment, and how to help the poor.
“This is basically our strategy and we must make sure we stay focused for Budget 2020. Everyone is waiting, ” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Oct 10).
The Ayer Hitam MP also said it isn’t compulsory for the Opposition to table an alternative budget on an annual basis.
“As far as the Opposition is concerned, we will watch Budget 2020, see what the gist of it is, and we will have our meeting this Sunday (Oct 13) to formulate our strategy.
“Most importantly, while they (the government) are duty-bound to table the yearly budget, for the Opposition, we have a choice – whether to do it once a year or every two years, it’s up to us, ” said Dr Wee.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng will be tabling Budget 2020 in Parliament tomorrow (Oct 11).
