KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) is still issuing an advisory on tropical storm Podul, which is expected to hit Sabah waters.
In a statement issued by the department this evening, MetMalaysia said the tropical storm was moving west of Sabah at a maximum speed of up to 83 kilometres (km) per hour.
“Based on observations at 5 pm Thursday, the tropical storm was now located about 513 km south-east of Hanoi, Vietnam and approximately 1,305 km north-west of Kudat, Sabah.
Recent observations also indicate the current position of the storm was about 1,451 km north-west of Kudat, Sabah, compared to 1,305 km in the morning observation at 8 am.
“The situation could cause strong winds and turbulent seas over waters off Sabah,” the statement read.
